Everest Base Camp Specialists Since 2018
Kiran Basnet founded Everest Trekking Company in 2018 with a clear purpose: to offer genuinely well-organized, safety-focused Everest Base Camp treks for international trekkers. Based in Thamel, Kathmandu, we have guided more than 1,000 trekkers through the Khumbu region since our first departure.
Every trek we run is planned in detail by Kiran and led on the trail by Amar Khand, our Senior Trek Leader, with more than 40 Everest Base Camp expeditions completed since 2003. We keep the maximum group size at 12 trekkers per departure, maintain a dedicated porter for each client, and carry supplemental oxygen and a satellite communicator on every departure above 5,000 m.

Kiran built Everest Trekking Company on the belief that a well-guided EBC trek is achievable for any reasonably fit adult with the right preparation and leadership on the mountain.

Safety shapes every decision we make about how we run a trek, from the itinerary pacing we build around proper acclimatization to the equipment we carry on every departure above 5,000 meters. We keep our maximum group size at twelve trekkers specifically so our guides can give genuine, individual attention to every member of a group, rather than managing a crowd too large to monitor closely for early signs of altitude sickness or fatigue. Every departure above 5,000 meters carries supplemental oxygen and a satellite communicator, ensuring our guides can reach emergency services and coordinate evacuation even in the more remote sections of the Khumbu where mobile signal does not reach.

Every trek we run is led on the trail by guides who grew up in the Khumbu region, many in the same villages our trekkers walk through, bringing genuine local knowledge of current trail conditions, weather patterns, and the best acclimatization strategies for each specific group. Our Senior Trek Leader has completed more than forty Everest Base Camp expeditions since 2003, a depth of route specific experience that shapes how we plan and lead every trek we offer. Our climbing guides for technical peaks like Island Peak and Lobuche East hold internationally recognized mountaineering qualifications and bring dedicated experience on these specific summits.

Environmental Responsibility on the Trail
The Khumbu region’s fragile high altitude environment faces genuine pressure from the volume of trekkers passing through it each season, and we take this seriously in how we operate. We encourage trekkers to carry reusable water bottles and water purification methods rather than relying on single use plastic bottles, which become an increasing waste management burden the higher you climb. Our guides and porters follow leave no trace principles throughout every trek, and we support the broader effort within the Sagarmatha National Park and Khumbu region to keep this remarkable landscape clean for the generations of trekkers who will follow.

Our Story
Everest Trekking Company was founded in 2018 in Thamel, Kathmandu, with a simple goal: build a trekking agency that knows the Everest region better than any generalist operator ever could. In our first years, we focused entirely on proving out safe, well-organized departures on the classic Everest Base Camp route, building direct relationships with teahouse owners and porters throughout the Khumbu along the way. Since then, we have grown to guide more than a thousand trekkers to Base Camp and beyond, expanded into technical climbing add-ons like Island Peak and Lobuche East, and built out alternative routes including the Gokyo Lakes circuit and the historic Jiri approach, while staying deliberately focused on the one region we know best.
Service Area and Certifications
We are registered with the Government of Nepal’s Company Registrar’s Office and operate as a licensed trekking agency under Nepali tourism law, holding active membership with both the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) and the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Every trek and climb we lead takes place within the Everest region and Khumbu valley, covering the Sagarmatha National Park and the trekking peaks immediately surrounding it, including Island Peak and Lobuche East. We arrange all required permits, including the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entry fee, and TIMS registration, as part of every booking.
