Everest View Trek | 7 Days Everest Panorama Trek

7 Days

The Everest View Trek, also known as the Everest Panorama Trek, is the perfect introduction to the Khumbu region for trekkers with limited time or those who prefer a less demanding high-altitude experience. This seven-day itinerary reaches Tengboche Monastery at three thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven meters, with spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the incomparable Ama Dablam.

This trek follows the same initial trail as the full Everest Base Camp Trek, flying to Lukla and walking through Phakding to Namche Bazaar. You experience the thrill of the Lukla flight, the beauty of the Dudh Kosi valley, and the vibrant atmosphere of Namche without the demanding upper sections that require extensive acclimatization.

The highlight of this trek is Tengboche, where the monastery sits in a clearing surrounded by some of the most dramatic mountain scenery on Earth. The views of Ama Dablam from Tengboche are genuinely world-class, and many photographers consider this the finest viewpoint in the entire Khumbu region.

The Everest View Trek is ideal for families with older children, trekkers who are uncertain about their altitude tolerance, and anyone who wants to experience the Khumbu without committing to the full Base Camp trek. It is also an excellent option for photographers who want to capture the mountain scenery without the physical demands of the upper route.

A good Everest trek company will make this short trek just as professionally managed as a full Base Camp expedition. The same attention to safety, the same quality of guiding, and the same support systems apply regardless of the trek duration.

Our Everest View Trek package includes domestic flights, trekking permits, teahouse accommodation, meals, professional guide, and porter service. Contact Everest Trekking Company for availability and to discuss whether this trek matches your interests and fitness level.

Who This Shorter Trek Is Genuinely Best For

The Everest View Trek fills a genuinely useful gap for travelers who want a real taste of the Khumbu region without committing the two full weeks a Base Camp trek requires. It suits trekkers with limited vacation time who still want to experience a Lukla flight, walk through the Sherpa villages of the lower Khumbu, and see Everest and its neighboring peaks up close. It also works well as a confidence building first step for trekkers uncertain about their own tolerance for altitude and multi day trekking, since the maximum elevation on this route, 3,867 meters at Tengboche, sits well below the altitude where acute mountain sickness becomes a serious concern for most people. Families trekking with older children or teenagers, and travelers combining a Nepal trip with other activities like a Chitwan safari or Pokhara visit, frequently choose this shorter itinerary specifically because it leaves more of their overall trip available for other experiences.

What You See and Experience on This Route

Despite its shorter length, this itinerary covers genuinely spectacular terrain. The flight into Lukla remains one of the most thrilling short haul flights in the world, landing on a short mountain airstrip carved into a hillside. From there, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi river through Phakding and climbs steadily to Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa trading town that serves as the gateway to the entire Khumbu region. Beyond Namche, the trail continues through rhododendron and pine forest to Tengboche, home to the region’s most important Buddhist monastery, where the view of Ama Dablam framed against the monastery’s prayer flags is widely considered one of the finest single vistas in the Himalaya. On a clear day you also see Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse from the same vantage point.

How This Compares to the Full Everest Base Camp Trek

The honest comparison is straightforward: this trek shares the same starting trail and the same initial villages as the full Everest Base Camp itinerary, but stops well short of the higher, more demanding sections above Tengboche. You do not reach Base Camp itself or Kala Patthar, and you do not experience the stark, high altitude terrain above 4,000 meters that characterizes the upper sections of the longer trek. What you gain in exchange is a considerably shorter time commitment, a meaningfully lower altitude profile that suits trekkers with less certainty about their own altitude tolerance, and a genuinely still spectacular introduction to Everest region scenery and Sherpa culture.

Fitness Level Required

This is a genuinely accessible itinerary for most reasonably active people. While the trail does involve real elevation gain, particularly the climb from Phakding up to Namche Bazaar, the overall daily walking hours and cumulative altitude gain are considerably more moderate than the full Base Camp trek. Trekkers who walk or exercise regularly, without any specific endurance training, are typically well prepared for this itinerary, making it a good option for a wider range of fitness levels and ages than our longer, higher altitude treks.

Best Time of Year for This Trek

The same spring and autumn seasons that suit the full Everest Base Camp Trek also suit this shorter itinerary, offering the clearest mountain views and most comfortable trekking temperatures. Because this route stays at a lower maximum altitude than our longer treks, it also remains a genuinely viable winter option for trekkers comfortable with colder temperatures, since the risk of high pass closures that affects longer itineraries simply does not apply here.

Booking the Everest View Trek

This shorter itinerary is a popular add on for travelers building a broader Nepal trip, and Lukla flight availability during peak season is the main factor worth planning around, so we recommend booking at least a month or two in advance during spring and autumn. Reach out to our team to discuss your available time, fitness level, and how this trek might fit alongside other activities in your wider Nepal itinerary.

What to Pack for This Shorter Trek

Since this itinerary stays below 4,000 meters, packing is somewhat lighter than our longer treks, though the same layering principles apply: a warm down jacket for cold evenings, a good pair of broken-in trekking boots, and layers you can adjust as you move between forest and higher exposed sections. Trekking poles help considerably on the steeper climb into Namche Bazaar, and a basic first aid kit and water purification method remain worthwhile even on a shorter route through remote terrain.

Related Everest Treks

If you have more time and want to reach Base Camp itself, our standard Everest Base Camp Trek continues past Tengboche to the full route, and our Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is a good middle-ground option. See our Everest Base Camp Trek FAQ for more trip comparisons.

Everest Panorama Trek Overview

The Everest Panorama Trek is the most efficient way to see Everest without committing to 14 days and high-altitude acclimatization. In seven days we fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, walk up to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m, spend a full rest day hiking to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m, and then continue to Tengboche Monastery at 3,860 m before returning to the valley and flying home. You see Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kantega up close, the same peaks that draw tens of thousands of trekkers each year, without ever going above 3,900 m.This is the trek we recommend to travellers who have one week to spare, want to experience the Khumbu Sherpa culture, and need a route where altitude sickness risk stays low. Our senior trek leader Susam Suywal has walked this route more than 60 times and calls it the best introduction to the Everest region for first-time trekkers to Nepal.

Why the Everest Panorama Trek Works for One Week

The classic Everest Base Camp trek takes 14 days and reaches 5,364 m, an elevation where altitude sickness is a genuine risk and the physical demand is significant. The Everest Panorama Trek reaches a maximum of 3,880 m at the Everest View Hotel, which is the highest teahouse viewpoint in the world and gives an exceptional view of Everest’s south face, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam from a comfortable dining terrace. At 3,880 m altitude effects are mild for most healthy trekkers: a slight shortness of breath on uphills, slower pace, and occasionally a mild headache on the first evening in Namche. The acclimatization day built into Day 4 is enough to manage these effects. You do not need supplementary oxygen, crampons, or technical gear of any kind. The trail from Lukla to Namche is the same trail used by all EBC trekkers. You walk through Sagarmatha National Park, cross the Hillary Bridge above the Dudh Koshi river, pass through small Sherpa villages, and arrive in Namche, the commercial capital of the Khumbu, with bakeries, gear shops, and a weekly Saturday market. The stretch from Namche to Tengboche adds Ama Dablam to the view: the mountain’s distinctive pyramid shape appears directly above the monastery and is one of the most recognisable mountain sights in Nepal.

What You See

The Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m sits on a ridge above Namche and is specifically positioned to face Everest (8,849 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), and Thamserku (6,618 m). On a clear morning the view is unobstructed from the hotel terrace. We leave Namche at 7:00 a.m. to reach the hotel by 9:00 a.m. before clouds build in the valley, this timing is essential for the best views.Tengboche Monastery at 3,860 m is the most important religious site in the Khumbu. Founded in 1916 and rebuilt after a 1989 fire, the monastery sits on a promontory with Ama Dablam rising directly behind it and Everest visible on clear days above the Nuptse Ridge. The monastery grounds include a mani wall, prayer wheels, and a meditation centre. Monks perform puja at sunrise and sunset; if your timing aligns, the ceremony adds a dimension to the trek that no amount of mountain views can replicate.

The Route Day by Day

We fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860 m) in 35 minutes on Day 2 and start walking the same morning to Phakding (2,652 m), a gentle introduction along the Dudh Koshi river. Day 3 climbs to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) via the Hillary Bridge and the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint. Day 4 is the acclimatization day at Namche: we hike to the Everest View Hotel and spend the afternoon resting or exploring the town.Day 5 takes us from Namche to Tengboche (3,860 m) on a four to five hour trail that first descends to the Dudh Koshi before climbing through rhododendron forest to the monastery ridge. Day 6 reverses the route from Tengboche back to Namche and continues down to Phakding, covering both sections in a long but predominantly downhill seven hours. Day 7 walks the final hour from Phakding to Lukla for the morning flight back to Kathmandu.

Best Time to Trek

October and November give the clearest mountain views: post-monsoon skies, stable weather, and temperatures at Namche between 5 and 15°C during the day. March and April are the spring alternative, with rhododendrons in bloom on the lower trails and Everest visible above the ridgeline on most mornings. The shorter duration of this trek means it is viable in late February and early December too, when the longer EBC route becomes difficult, below Namche the temperatures are mild enough for comfortable trekking in most months outside of the monsoon. We avoid June through August. Cloud cover over the Khumbu during monsoon reduces mountain visibility to near zero on most days, and the lower trails become slippery and leech-heavy.

Permits Required

This trek requires two permits. The Sagarmatha National Park entry fee is USD 30 per person and the TIMS card costs USD 10. Both are included in our package price and handled by our Kathmandu office before departure. The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee (NPR 2,000) applies above Monjo; this is also included.

Trekking with Everest Trekking Company

We have operated in the Khumbu since 2004. Every departure of the Everest Panorama Trek is accompanied by a licensed Sherpa guide with a minimum of three years of guiding experience on the Namche trail. Group size is capped at 10 trekkers. We carry a first-aid kit with pulse oximeters and our guides are trained to recognise altitude sickness symptoms. For a seven-day trek in the 3,000 to 3,900 m range, this preparation is genuinely more than you will need, but it is there if the situation calls for it.

2026 Update: Lukla Flights and Permit Fees

Trekkers joining Everest Trekking Company in spring 2026 (March to May) should note that Lukla flights during the peak spring season often depart from Ramechhap airport rather than Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. Ramechhap is approximately 3 hours by road from Kathmandu. We arrange shared jeep transfers for all groups departing from Ramechhap. Autumn departures (September to November) typically fly directly from Kathmandu.

Permit fees for 2026 remain: Sagarmatha National Park entry at NPR 3,000 (approximately USD 22) per person, and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee at NPR 3,000 (approximately USD 22) per person. Both are included in your Everest Trekking Company package price. A TIMS card (Trekkers Information Management System) is also included at NPR 2,000 (approximately USD 15).
