Everest Trekking Company operates 9 guided expeditions in the Khumbu region of Nepal, all departing from Kathmandu, with permits, Sagarmatha National Park entry fees, and a licensed Sherpa guide team included. Every trip falls into one of two categories: trekking or peak climbing. Trekking routes make up 7 of our 9 departures, ranging from 7 days to 20 days. The remaining 2 trips combine the classic Everest Base Camp walk with a technical summit above 6,000 m. This page outlines what each type involves, so you can match the right trip to your fitness level, timeline, and goals.
Trekking in the Khumbu Region
Trekking in the Khumbu means walking on established mountain trails through Sherpa villages, rhododendron forests, glacial moraines, and high passes above 5,000 m. No technical climbing equipment is needed. The main requirement is the ability to walk 5 to 8 hours per day on uneven terrain over multiple consecutive days. Every trekking departure includes all required permits, teahouse accommodation, meals from Phakding or Lukla to Gorak Shep, and a licensed lead guide who has completed the route more than 20 times.
The Classic Everest Base Camp Route
The 14-day Everest Base Camp Trek is our most-booked departure. It starts with a short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840 m) and walks steadily upward through Namche Bazaar (3,440 m), Tengboche (3,860 m), Dingboche (4,410 m), Lobuche (4,940 m), and Gorak Shep (5,164 m) before reaching Everest Base Camp (5,364 m). The route includes a rest day in Namche and a rest day in Dingboche for acclimatization, plus a morning ascent to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) before the descent. Starting from USD 1,400 per person.
Trekkers who prefer a faster return can book the 11-day Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return. After reaching Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, a helicopter from Gorak Shep flies back to Lukla and then Kathmandu, saving 3 days of walking descent. Starting from USD 2,150.
For those who want upgraded accommodation and a private guide throughout, the 13-day Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek follows the same route with private rooms, hot showers at every stop, and a dedicated personal guide for the group. Starting from USD 2,800.
Extended Routes and High Passes
The 17-day Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek combines the standard EBC approach with a detour through the Gokyo Valley. Trekkers visit the turquoise Gokyo Lakes at 4,750 m, ascend Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) for panoramic views of Cho Oyu and Everest, and then cross the Cho La pass (5,420 m) to rejoin the classic EBC trail at Lobuche. Starting from USD 1,700.
The 20-day Everest Three Passes Trek crosses all three major high passes in the Khumbu: Renjo La (5,360 m), Cho La (5,420 m), and Kongma La (5,535 m). This route visits Gokyo, Everest Base Camp, and Chhukung in a single loop and is suited to trekkers with previous high-altitude or multi-day alpine experience. Starting from USD 1,900.
The 20-day Everest Base Camp Trek from Jiri with Jeep begins at Jiri (1,905 m) and follows the route Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay used before the Lukla airstrip existed. A jeep carries trekkers from Kathmandu to Jiri. The approach through Solu-Khumbu adds 6 to 7 days of walking through traditional villages before reaching Namche Bazaar, providing a longer acclimatization window and a more complete cross-section of the region. Starting from USD 1,750.
Short Treks in the Lower Khumbu
The 7-day Everest Panorama Trek is our shortest option and the most accessible for first-time altitude trekkers. The route reaches Tengboche Monastery (3,860 m) and returns to Lukla without going above 4,000 m. Views include Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Thamserku (6,618 m), and Kantega (6,685 m). Suitable for trekkers with limited time or those testing their response to altitude before a longer future trip. Starting from USD 950.
Peak Climbing in the Khumbu
Two of our 9 trips include a technical summit above 6,000 m combined with the Everest Base Camp trek. These are classified as trekking peak climbs by the Nepal Mountaineering Association, meaning the permit process is simpler than for expedition-class peaks. Prior Himalayan summit experience is not required, but previous use of crampons and ice axe on alpine terrain is strongly recommended. All technical equipment, including crampons, harness, ice axe, and carabiner set, is provided by Everest Trekking Company. A dedicated climbing guide accompanies the group on summit day in addition to the lead trek guide.
Island Peak Climbing with EBC Trek (6,189 m)
The 19-day EBC Trek with Island Peak Climbing follows the standard Everest Base Camp route to Gorak Shep on day 9, then moves to the Island Peak base camp at 5,200 m and high camp at 5,600 m before the summit attempt on day 14. Island Peak (Imja Tse) involves glacier travel, a fixed rope section, and a snow ridge to the summit at 6,189 m. Our summit success rate on Island Peak departures is above 80 percent. Starting from USD 2,400.
Lobuche Peak Climbing with EBC Trek (6,119 m)
The 17-day Everest Base Camp Trek with Lobuche Peak includes EBC and a summit attempt on Lobuche East (6,119 m). The technical section above 5,800 m involves a rocky ridge with fixed ropes and requires confident crampon technique. Our dedicated climbing guide for Lobuche has completed this summit more than 25 times and leads the rope team from the front throughout the technical section. Starting from USD 2,200.
How to Choose the Right Trip
If this is your first time above 4,000 m, begin with the 7-day Everest Panorama Trek or the standard 14-day Everest Base Camp Trek. Both trips have well-spaced acclimatization stops and do not require any prior altitude experience. If you have already trekked above 4,500 m before, the 17-day Gokyo Lakes Trek or the 20-day Everest Three Passes Trek will add variety and challenge beyond the standard EBC route. If you want to include a technical summit in the same trip, choose Island Peak for a longer snow route with a higher success rate, or Lobuche East for a more technical ridge at a lower cost.
All 9 departures run throughout the year. The main trekking seasons are March to May and September to November. We do run winter and monsoon departures on request, with adjusted itineraries.
