Can I actually see Everest on this trek?

Yes. The best views are from the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) above Namche Bazaar on Day 4. From the hotel terrace you see Everest (8,849 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), and Thamserku (6,618 m) with no obstruction on a clear morning. We time the visit for early morning, arriving by 9:00 a.m., before valley cloud builds. Everest is also visible from the hill above Namche on the late afternoon arrival on Day 3, and from certain points on the Tengboche trail on Day 5.

How fit do I need to be for the Everest Panorama Trek?

This trek is classified as moderate and is suitable for people with basic walking fitness. You should be comfortable walking four to seven hours per day with a light day pack and be able to handle a mix of uphill and downhill terrain on dirt paths. No prior trekking or Himalayan experience is required. The main physical demand is the 800-metre ascent from the valley floor to Namche Bazaar on Day 3, this section takes two to three hours at a steady pace and is tiring but not technical. Daily preparation through cardio exercise such as hiking or cycling for six to eight weeks before departure will make the experience significantly more comfortable.

Is altitude sickness a risk on this trek?

Altitude sickness risk is low but not zero. The highest point, the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m, is within a range where mild symptoms such as headache, slight nausea, and fatigue are possible, especially on the first night at Namche (3,440 m). The acclimatization day built into Day 4 is specifically designed to let your body adjust before you go higher. Our guides carry pulse oximeters and monitor oxygen saturation each morning. If a trekker's readings drop significantly or symptoms worsen, we descend immediately. The route does not go high enough to cause serious altitude illness in most healthy trekkers, but we take it seriously regardless.

What is the Everest View Hotel?

The Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m above Namche Bazaar holds the Guinness World Record as the world's highest hotel. It was built in 1971 by a Japanese company specifically for the mountain views from its terrace. The hotel faces directly toward Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku, and on clear mornings the panorama from the dining terrace is one of the finest high-altitude views accessible without technical trekking. We stop here on Day 4 for tea and views. The hotel itself is expensive to stay in; we use it as a viewpoint stop rather than overnight accommodation.

What is Tengboche Monastery?

Tengboche Monastery is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu, sitting at 3,860 m on a ridge above the Dudh Koshi valley. Founded in 1916 and rebuilt after a 1989 fire, it is the spiritual centre of the Sherpa community and the site of the Mani Rimdu festival each November. The monastery grounds have prayer wheels, mani walls, and a meditation centre. From the ridge you see Ama Dablam rising directly behind the monastery buildings and Everest visible on clear days above the Nuptse Ridge to the northwest. We spend an afternoon here on Day 5, giving time to walk the grounds and observe the setting before sunset.

What permits do I need and are they included?

This trek requires three permits: the Sagarmatha National Park entry fee (USD 30 per person), the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee (NPR 2,000 per person, approximately USD 15), and the TIMS card (USD 10 per person). All three are included in our package price. Our Kathmandu office processes the paperwork on Day 1 and hands you the physical permits before you leave for Lukla. You do not need to visit any permit offices yourself.

What is the accommodation like on this trek?

We use established teahouse lodges throughout the route. In Namche (two nights) the teahouses are some of the best in the Khumbu: rooms have electric blankets, attached bathrooms are available at higher prices, and there are bakeries and restaurants within walking distance. In Phakding (one night each way) and Tengboche (one night) the accommodation is more basic, clean rooms with two single beds and shared facilities. Hot showers cost approximately USD 2 at most lodges. We pre-book all accommodation on popular dates. The 3-star Kathmandu hotel at the start and end of the trip provides a comfortable contrast to the teahouse experience.

When is the best time to do the Everest Panorama Trek?

October and November are the most popular months: clear post-monsoon skies, excellent mountain visibility, and comfortable temperatures. March and April are the spring alternative with rhododendrons in bloom below Namche and stable weather. Because this trek stays below 3,900 m, it is also viable in late February and early December when the higher EBC routes become difficult. We avoid June through August: monsoon cloud cover reduces visibility and the lower trails become wet and slippery. If mountain views are your primary goal, October is the single best month.

What should I pack for this trek?

For a 7-day trek with a maximum elevation of 3,880 m you need: waterproof trekking boots, moisture-wicking base layers (two to three sets), a mid-layer fleece or softshell, a waterproof jacket, trekking trousers, a warm hat and gloves, trekking poles (helpful on the Namche ascent and descent days), a sleeping bag rated to minus 5°C, sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen SPF 50+, and a headlamp with spare batteries. A day pack of 20 to 25 litres is enough for what you carry yourself, your porter carries the larger bag. You do not need crampons, an ice axe, or altitude-specific equipment on this route.

What happens if my Lukla flight is cancelled?

Lukla flights are weather-dependent and cancellations happen, particularly in the morning fog season of spring. If your flight out of Lukla is cancelled, we hold your teahouse room and rebook you on the next available flight at no additional cost beyond accommodation expenses. If multiple consecutive days pass without a flight opening, helicopter evacuation from Lukla to Kathmandu is an option at approximately USD 500 per person, usually covered by travel insurance. We always build buffer time in the Kathmandu schedule before international departures, and we advise against booking international flights out of Kathmandu on the same day as your scheduled Lukla return.

Can I do this trek solo or do I need a guide?

Nepal regulations require foreign trekkers in Sagarmatha National Park to be accompanied by a licensed guide. You cannot legally do this trek as an unguided solo trekker. All our packages include a licensed Sherpa guide. If you want a private departure with a guide assigned solely to you, we offer that option, contact our Kathmandu office for pricing. Solo travellers are also welcome to join a group departure where the per-person cost is lower.

Is this trek suitable for families with children?

Yes, the Everest Panorama Trek is one of the most family-friendly high-altitude trekking options in Nepal. The maximum elevation of 3,880 m keeps altitude risk manageable, daily walking distances are reasonable, and the trail is well-marked and non-technical. Children aged 10 and above with a good base level of fitness can handle this route comfortably. Younger children on an EBC-style route are not recommended given altitude and distance demands, but the Panorama route can work. Can I extend this trek into the full EBC route?

Yes. The Everest Panorama Trek uses the same trail as the full EBC route up to Tengboche, after which EBC trekkers continue south from Tengboche toward Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorak Shep. If you complete the Panorama Trek and want more, we can add seven to nine days to extend to the full Everest Base Camp Trek. The Route Day by Day

We fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860 m) in 35 minutes on Day 2 and start walking the same morning to Phakding (2,652 m), a gentle introduction along the Dudh Koshi river. Day 3 climbs to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) via the Hillary Bridge and the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint. Day 4 is the acclimatization day at Namche: we hike to the Everest View Hotel and spend the afternoon resting or exploring the town.Day 5 takes us from Namche to Tengboche (3,860 m) on a four to five hour trail that first descends to the Dudh Koshi before climbing through rhododendron forest to the monastery ridge. Day 6 reverses the route from Tengboche back to Namche and continues down to Phakding, covering both sections in a long but predominantly downhill seven hours. Day 7 walks the final hour from Phakding to Lukla for the morning flight back to Kathmandu.

Best Time to Trek

October and November give the clearest mountain views: post-monsoon skies, stable weather, and temperatures at Namche between 5 and 15°C during the day. March and April are the spring alternative, with rhododendrons in bloom on the lower trails and Everest visible above the ridgeline on most mornings. The shorter duration of this trek means it is viable in late February and early December too, when the longer EBC route becomes difficult, below Namche the temperatures are mild enough for comfortable trekking in most months outside of the monsoon.We avoid June through August. Cloud cover over the Khumbu during monsoon reduces mountain visibility to near zero on most days, and the lower trails become slippery and leech-heavy.

Trekking with Everest Trekking Company

We have operated in the Khumbu since 2004. 2026 Update: Lukla Flights and Permit Fees

Trekkers joining Everest Trekking Company in spring 2026 (March to May) should note that Lukla flights during the peak spring season often depart from Ramechhap airport rather than Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. Ramechhap is approximately 3 hours by road from Kathmandu. We arrange shared jeep transfers for all groups departing from Ramechhap. Autumn departures (September to November) typically fly directly from Kathmandu.

Permit fees for 2026 remain: Sagarmatha National Park entry at NPR 3,000 (approximately USD 22) per person, and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee at NPR 3,000 (approximately USD 22) per person. Both are included in your Everest Trekking Company package price. A TIMS card (Trekkers Information Management System) is also included at NPR 2,000 (approximately USD 15).

Arrival :

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu (1,400 m)

Your Everest Trekking Company representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfers you to your hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu. The afternoon is free to rest, explore the neighbourhood, or visit Boudhanath Stupa nearby. Day 2: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860 m), Trek to Phakding (2,652 m)

We leave for the domestic terminal at 5:30 a.m. for the 35-minute mountain flight to Lukla’s Tenzing-Hillary Airport. The runway sits at the edge of a cliff at 2,860 m, the approach gives your first clear view of the high Himalaya. From Lukla we follow the Dudh Koshi river downstream through pine and rhododendron forest to Phakding (2,652 m), an easy three to four hours on a mostly flat trail. Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

Today’s five to six hours of walking takes us upstream through Sagarmatha National Park. We enter the park at Monjo (2,840 m), where rangers check permits at the gate. The trail continues along the Dudh Koshi, crossing the Hillary Bridge, a long suspension bridge roughly 60 metres above the river, before the steep final ascent to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m. Namche is Nepal’s highest permanently inhabited market town and has everything from bakeries and gear shops to ATMs and a hospital. First Everest sightings are often possible from the hill above town on arrival afternoon. Overnight in Namche.

Day 4: Acclimatization at Namche, Everest View Hotel (3,880 m)

Rest days are not optional at altitude, they are what prevent altitude sickness and make the rest of the trek enjoyable. We start at 7:00 a.m. with a two-hour hike up to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m, the world’s highest located hotel. The hotel terrace faces directly toward Everest (8,849 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), and Thamserku (6,618 m). We have tea here and spend 30 to 40 minutes taking in the view before the morning cloud moves in from the valley. Back in Namche by 10:30 a.m., the afternoon is free: visit the Sherpa Culture Museum, browse gear shops, or rest. Overnight in Namche.

Tengboche Monastery :

Day 5: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860 m)

One of the finest trail days in the Khumbu. We leave Namche on a contour path heading northeast with Ama Dablam visible ahead for most of the first hour. The trail descends to the Dudh Koshi at Phunki Tenga (3,250 m) before a 600-metre climb through rhododendron and juniper forest to Tengboche ridge at 3,860 m. Tengboche Monastery, founded in 1916, sits on a plateau with one of the best mountain panoramas in Nepal: Everest above the Nuptse Ridge, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam directly behind the monastery. The afternoon is free to explore the monastery grounds and walk to the viewpoint east of the ridge. Four to five hours walking. Overnight in Tengboche.

Descent :

Day 6: Tengboche to Phakding (2,652 m)

A long downhill day: seven to eight hours from Tengboche at 3,860 m back down to Phakding at 2,652 m, reversing the ascent route through Phunki Tenga and Namche. We take a short break in Namche for lunch. The descent is kind on the lungs, altitude drops away quickly and most trekkers notice improved energy and appetite by the time we reach Phakding. It is a good day for photography: Ama Dablam is visible ahead for the first hour of descent and the suspension bridges along the Dudh Koshi are particularly photogenic in afternoon light. Day 7: Phakding to Lukla (2,860 m), Fly to Kathmandu

A short one-hour walk from Phakding to Lukla for the morning flight back to Kathmandu (approximately 35 minutes). Lukla flights operate weather-permitting and can be delayed by cloud cover, we allow buffer time before any international connections. This is the final opportunity to look back at the valley you have walked. Back in Kathmandu, your driver transfers you from the domestic terminal to your hotel or the international airport. The Everest View Trek with Everest Trekking Company was an unforgettable experience. Our guide Pemba was incredibly knowledgeable about the region, the culture, and the mountain environment, and made the whole journey feel very safe and enjoyable. The views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam from Khumjung and the Everest View Hotel were beyond anything I had imagined. The tea houses were comfortable and the food was great at every stop. The team handled all logistics seamlessly from the moment we landed in Kathmandu. If you are short on time but want to experience the magic of the Khumbu region, this is the perfect trek.

I chose the Everest View Trek as my first ever Himalayan trek and it exceeded every expectation. Everest Trekking Company arranged everything perfectly, from the airport pickup to the final transfer back to Kathmandu. Our guide Dawa was patient, friendly, and always made sure the pace was comfortable for everyone in the group. Reaching Syangboche at over 3800 metres and seeing the panoramic views of the Everest range for the first time was a moment I will carry with me forever. The teahouses along the route were welcoming and the local food was delicious. I cannot recommend this company and this trek enough to anyone considering their first adventure in Nepal.

What is Altitude Sickness?

Altitude sickness, also called Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), is the body’s reaction to reduced oxygen levels at high elevation
At sea level, air contains about 21 percent oxygen at normal atmospheric pressure
As you gain elevation, air pressure drops and each breath delivers less oxygen to your blood and organs
At 3,440m (Namche Bazaar), oxygen availability is roughly 67 percent of what it is at sea level
At 5,364m (Everest Base Camp), each breath delivers only about 50 percent of the oxygen you would get at sea level
The human body needs time to produce more red blood cells and adapt to this lower oxygen environment
When you ascend faster than your body can adjust, altitude sickness occurs

Why Does Altitude Sickness Happen?

Rescue Process When Altitude Sickness Becomes Serious

If a trekker cannot descend safely on foot, our guide contacts Everest Trekking Company base operations in Kathmandu immediately via satellite phone or radio
We work with certified helicopter rescue operators based in Lukla and Kathmandu with proven experience in high altitude rescue
Rescue helicopters can reach most points on the EBC route within 30 to 90 minutes depending on weather and light conditions
Our team contacts the helicopter company directly to avoid any delay in communication or response
The helicopter lands at the nearest safe landing zone such as Pheriche, Dingboche, Namche, or Lobuche depending on where the guest is located
While waiting for the helicopter, the guide administers emergency medication, Dexamethasone for HACE or Nifedipine for HAPE
Supplemental oxygen is administered immediately if available from the local lodge or our kit
If the helicopter is delayed more than 20 minutes and conditions are severe, the Gamow bag is inflated and the trekker placed inside
A Gamow bag simulates a descent of approximately 1,500 meters by increasing the air pressure inside the sealed bag, giving immediate relief
The trekker is kept warm, monitored continuously, and given small sips of fluid if conscious and able to swallow safely
A guide or porter accompanies the trekker to the helicopter and if possible all the way to the hospital in Kathmandu
Our Kathmandu operations team meets the helicopter and coordinates handover to hospital medical staff
Full health records from the trek including SpO2 logs, symptom timeline, and medications given are provided to the hospital team
Everest Trekking Company contacts the trekker’s emergency contact and travel insurance company as soon as evacuation is confirmed
We assist with all insurance documentation and stay in contact with the trekker and their family through the full recovery process
